  • In 2293, the Kumari had been patrolling Klingon territory. When it returned to IU space across the Ashen Scar anomaly, it became the first ship to survive the anomaly. On top of that achievement, Kumari successfully evaded patrolling D8-class battlecruisers. When Commander Hikaru Sulu learned that contact with the cultural observation post on 40 Eridani A II had been lost, he arranged for Kumari to be reassigned to provide relief. Sulu's daughter Demora served as security officer on the anthropological outpost. When the Kumari arrived, Sulu and a landing party investigated the outpost. The landing party was captured by T'Pau and her clan but were set free through negotiations. Following a battle with the Eridanians, another attempt at negotiating proved successful when Demora arrived and shared the katra of the ancient T'Khasi poet S'task with T'Pau's clan, causing them to rethink their lifestyle of eternal violence and strife. Kumari left the planet with the outpost's survivors, heading back to Andor to join the fleet for the impending Klingon invasion. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: The Tears of Eridanus)
