Edward Aubrey Hastings Jay (2 June 1869 - 6 June 1950) was a barrister, travel writer and politician. Born in Putney, he was the son of Thomas Jay, of Wellington House, Great Malvern, Worcestershire. He was educated at Winchester School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He graduated in 1892 with degrees in arts and law, and was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1893. In 1895 he inherted the bulk of the estate of his aunt, Elizabeth Jay, Baroness Teynham. This included Tower House, Shooters Hill, Woolwich, which became his residence. He died in 1950 in Lyme Regis, Dorset, aged 81.

In 1897 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and in 1900 published A Glimpse of the Tropics or Four Months Cruising in the West Indies. In 1898 he married Isobel Violet Craigie of Hampstead. In 1900 he was elected to represent Greenwich on the London School Board, and in 1907 was elected to the London County Council as a Municipal Reform Party councillor representing Woolwich. He resigned from the council in 1911. During the First World War Jay worked for the Ministry of Food as an assistant director of rationing. He was awarded an OBE for this work in 1920. He died in 1950 in Lyme Regis, Dorset, aged 81.
