The Desert-class was a type of Culture Systems Vehicle. The Desert-class was the first type of General Systems Vehicle built by the Culture. They were in service by c. 6th century BCE. By the c. 19th century CE Deserts had been reclassified as Medium Systems Vehicles, having been superseded by much larger SVs. A Desert of this time, the Not Invented Here, was just over three kilometres long.
