As of November 2008, the game's development status had been unknown. Team Ninja founder and Dead or Alive series creator Itagaki filed a lawsuit against Tecmo for unpaid royalties and damages concerning harsh words from the company's president. On July 1, 2008, he officially resigned from Tecmo, thus leaving the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive franchises. On November 5, 2010, Yousuke Hayashi, the new head of Team Ninja, confirmed in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that the project has been officially cancelled.
