| - Gardonville Cooperative Telephone Association (GCTel) is located in Brandon, MN and is a private cooperative owned by the people in which it serves. The name Gar-don-ville is a compilation of the town names in which it serves: Garfield, Brandon, and Evansville. GCTel also serves several smaller towns including Erdahl, Leaf Valley, Melby and Millerville. In mid-2004, GCTel purchased Brandon Communications, Inc. (BCI), also located in Brandon, MN. BCI is a provider of services including automotive installations for electronic equipment including cellular phone car kits and remote car starters, television antenna service and maintenance, paging and two-way radio systems. With this subsidiary, GCTel is able to provide customers with an ever broader range of products and services. Headquarters In November of 2005 GCTel broke ground and construction began on the first phase of a new headquarters location. Phase one of the constrution project consisted of the shop that housed the plant, technical team and equipment. Phase one was completed by the end of second quarter, 2006. Phase two consisted of a new office. Awards / Recognition On March 24th 2003, GCTel was selected for the 2002 21st Century Leadership Award for Economic Development. This award was presented by the Minnesota Telecom Alliance. On March 22nd, 2006, U.S. Senator, Norm Coleman, announced that GCTel would receive a $480,000 loan from the Rural Economic Development Loan program. The mission of the USDA Rural Economic Development Loan is to help individuals, communities and businesses obtain financial assistance for economic development in rural areas. Funds were used to finance the construction of a new facility for Wagner Freeway Properties located South of Brandon. Wagner Freeway Properties is a growing transportation firm that provides flatbed and specialized hauling. The new facility created new employment opportunities and added to the local tax and economic base for the town of Brandon and its surrounding communities.
