Black Star I was produced Sinear Fleet Systems yard in the Guritsan system in 4 ABY. She was a prototype for the Mark 2 lineage and at the time only several were in production; Kreldin was one of the few to test the design, which shared the TIE Interceptor's design, save the addition of a shield, at the expense of some speed. Her initial designation was Shadow One, as Kreldin was, at the time, commander of Shadow Squadron. Due to Kreldin's ace reputation, he was allowed to paint the starfighter an unique crimson, a personal choice to distinguish him on the battlefield.

Due to Kreldin's ace reputation, he was allowed to paint the starfighter an unique crimson, a personal choice to distinguish him on the battlefield. Black Star I's trial by fire came soon after at the Battle of Endor. Despite the Imperial defeat, Kreldin's performance, and that of the Mark 2, allowed the Mark 2 to enter mass-production, where it eventually came to outnumber base TIE Interceptors. Black Star I served Kreldin throughout the Galactic Civil War, fighting throughout hundreds of sorties and combat missions. She became particularly infamous towards 11 ABY with the induction of Black Stars squadron, where the unique crimson hull became a prime target of New Republic pilots, earning Kreldin a top spot in the Republic's Most Wanted list. During the early stages of the War of the Throne, Kreldin was forced to abandon Black Star I, where it was apprehended along with her mothership, Admiral Canis. With the conclusion of the war, the starfighter was returned to his possession. Kreldin purchased the rights to exclusively own the starfighter as his own personal ship when he became an Admiral, paying the military upfront. He then heavily refitted the starfighter, equipping her with advanced shielding, improved hull, and advanced ion engines. Black Star I met her end at the Sixth Battle of Coruscant, where she was shot down. The wreckage was assembled by Wraith Squadron under orders from Lynae Cassius-Caiton, where they intended to erect a monument out of the wreckage to Kreldin on newly occupied Coruscant. Danik's subsequent return and attempted coup against Aleister Vadim cut this plan short, however; the remains of the famed starfighter have since been lost, likely destroyed to erase Kreldin's memory all-together.
