Most industries have an assembly line. The smooth running and maintenance of an assembly line is one of the biggest costs to a production company. In software development it can be argued that the assembly line is the compiler or more generally the build system (if there is one). This means that nearly all of the human effort in software development is in design and (unfortunately fixing errors). * Discuss the idea that software development is design. * How does this make software development different to normal product production?
