Sammy Silcock was the founder of Silcock's Shirts father in Weatherfield. Destitute before starting out in business, Sammy made a great success of it, making the Silcock name well known throughout Weatherfield. After his death, his son Tommy ran the factory. Sammy also had a granddaughter, Sue, who in 1972 dated Ray Langton. Even with his business successes, some older folk still remembered Sammy chiefly from his days when he had nothing, Ena Sharples for one.
