Sir Richard James Meller (1872-24 June 1940) was a barrister and Conservative Party politician. Called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1904, he entered local politics as a member of Surrey County Council. After two unsuccessful attempts to enter parliament he was elected MP for Mitcham (UK Parliament constituency) in 1923. In 1937 Beddington and Wallington, an area lying within his constituency, was granted a charter of incorporation. Meller was named as Charter Mayor of the borough. Wikipedia page [1].
