In April 2007, McDonald Ganisyeje reported that a solar cooker construction workshop has opened in Nkhotakota, with three employees. Solar CooKits cost about $5.40 to produce, using heavy cardboard that is cut by hand. Ganisyeje hopes to open additional workshops in the Chiradzulu District and the Mchinji-Lilongwe area. In March 2008, McDonald began a project with Care and Support Network in Malawi to build solar and fuel-efficient stoves and continues this work today (August, 2014).
