Lord Waldean de Beauvain was the younger brother of Lord Geoffrey de Beauvain. He was the feudal leader while Geoffrey was fighting in the Crusades. Upon his return home, Waldean usurped Geoffrey's position with the aid of his magician Signus. When the Third Doctor was found on his land, Waldean had him imprisoned in the castle dungeon along with Haval. They escaped, but Signus re-imprisoned them in his quarters. Waldean was convinced to let Signus try to cast a spell which would switch their bodies with Geoffrey's and the Doctor's. When the Doctor and Geoffrey successfully resisted the magician's attempt, which took the form of illusions, the spell backfired and they fled from the terrifying visions over the castle wall to their deaths in the moat below.
