Frank Sheffield (12 September 1840 - 12 July 1921) was a naval officer and politician. Born in Poplar, he was the son of Henry Sheffield, a coal merchant. Sheffield served as an officer in the Honourable East India Company's Marine, the forerunner to the Indian Navy. He returned to England, settling in Hampstead in north west London. In 1887 he received a commission as a second lieutenant in the 17th Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps. He advanced to the rank of major in the corps by 1895. In 1901 the 1st Cadet Battalion, Royal Fusiliers was formed and Sheffield became its commanding officer with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. In 1907 he was awarded the Volunteer Officer's Decoration. He resigned his commission in 1911 with the honorary rank of colonel.
