The Washington Monument is an obelisk located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Washington Monument was built to honor the first President of the United States, George Washington. Standing at 555-feet tall, the monument started construction in 1848, but did not reach completion until 1884 after facing a 23-year halt from 1854 to 1877.
