Savage Stretch is the 23st and final regular level in the Mushroom Kingdom. Savage Stretch is the final stretch before reaching Bowser's Castle. Bowser has set up his last remaining forces here in a last-ditch-effort to stop the Mario Bros. and their allies. The player must traverse through a deadly gauntlet of lava pools, Bullet Bill launchers, tanks, wall-mounted cannons, ferocious enemies, and a massive rampart loaded with enormous Banzai Bill cannons. Even reaching the top of the flagpole at the end of the level is a treacherous endeavor.

Bowser has set up his last remaining forces here in a last-ditch-effort to stop the Mario Bros. and their allies. The player must traverse through a deadly gauntlet of lava pools, Bullet Bill launchers, tanks, wall-mounted cannons, ferocious enemies, and a massive rampart loaded with enormous Banzai Bill cannons. Even reaching the top of the flagpole at the end of the level is a treacherous endeavor. While a fairly difficult stage on its own, this level is truly a nightmare for any character without some manner of stomping ability. Fortunately, in the finished game no such characters will be available until a point after the player has already beaten the level.
