As for the Metroid universe, Mother Brain is pretty much the thing you fight at the end of every Metroid game up until Metroid Prime. She has no real rhyme or reason about her. She's just... kind of there at the end for no real reason. Her big moment in gaming is easily the last battle of Super Metroid. It's not a hard fight by any means, but the atmosphere and the plot twist are about as good as it gets in the Metroid series. However even though Mother Brain never speaks and is nothing more than "the thing you fight at the end of Metroid games", storyline and such isn't what the Metroid series is about. It's all about action, and as such Mother Brain serves her purpose just fine. "Evacuate Immediately..." - Super Metroid
