These sites represent the outstanding and unparalleled places endowed by the nature or structures constructed by the human societies, and are considered a common heritage of human civilization. In many case, the Sites so listed gets funds from the UNESCO for the preservation and costs of maintenance. For a tourist, being in the immediate vicinity of the site, simply watching and understanding the history and significance of the place, shall be an endeavour of fulfillment and being part of the common heritage of the human civilization. As of 2006, the UNESCO has identified and listed 830 such sites which include 644 cultural, 164 natural and 24 ones which are both natural and cultural in character.
