The Sanctification of the Hearth was a ritual that was known to the Vulcan race. At such a time, the family assembled for food whereupon the hearth was blessed whereupon the Household's gods were invoked. Incense was at times used in such rituals and braziers were lit. During Vulcan-in-Exile, Karatek and his family celebrated the ritual after the trying times they had faced whilst they journeyed for a new home world.
