You are mistaken about most of them having those endings, the majority of Zanpakutō do not have that ending. It is not uncommon for Zanpakutō names (like people's names) to share some elements. "Maru" is a common ending for a male name, like Ichimaru. If you are getting "etsu" from Zangetsu and Engetsu, it is "getsu", not "etsu" and it means "moon".
