A sud è collegato dalla Strada Settentrionale con Watch Hill ed Emond's Field, mentre a nord un'altra strada sulla sponda opposta conduce a Baerlon; ad ovest si trovano il Bosco Occidentale e le Colline Sabbiose, ed ancora più ad ovest si stagliano le Montagne di Nebbia, su cui si trova il Velo di Eldrene (una cascata considerata la fonte del Taren); ad est si trovano campi aperti. Taren Ferry viene attraversato ne L'occhio del mondo dal gruppetto in fuga da Emond's Field: Rand al'Thor, Perrin Aybara, Matrim Cauthon, Egwene al'Vere, l'Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred, il Custode Lan Mandragoran e il menestrello Thom Merrilin; essi vengono traghettati da mastro Torralta e altri sei uomini dall'altra parte del Taren, e poi Moiraine affonda la loro barca. Poco tempo più tardi, anche Nynaeve al'Meara attraversa il Taren sullo stesso traghetto. Ne L'ascesa dell'Ombra, Taren Ferry viene prima sottomessa dai Figli della Luce e poi distrutta dalla seconda orda di Trolloc; nel prologo de Il signore del caos, si dice che la gente che viveva intorno al villaggio lo sta ricostruendo, e che Milla al'Azar è la nuova Sapiente. Gli unici abitanti noti di Taren Ferry sono mastro Torralta e la Sapiente Milla al'Azar.
