Esher was a township in Surrey, located southwest of London on the wooded area above the River Mole. To the south of the town, between Esher and Oxshott stretched a large wooded health. Mr Aloysius García lived near the village, in a rented house called Wisteria Lodge. His murder brought Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to Esher, where they stayed at the Bull Inn. Esher lies on the A307, Portsmouth Road. Esher railway station (served by the Waterloo via Weybridge service) connects the town to London Waterloo.
