Lester Spiffany was the son of the owner of one of Earth's finest jewelry establishments. Lester attempted to join the Legion of Super-Heroes, although he was without any super-powers. He tried to buy his way into the Legion using a dazzle gem from the planet Xandu as a gift. When he was told no, he offered to buy them a new headquarters. Cosmic Boy rejected him, and Lester left angrily, calling them all stupid.
