Shou Shen (possibly Romanized from the Mandarin "壽神", lit. "God of Longevity"), formally known as Nanji Laoren (南極老人, lit. "[//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Old Man of the South Pole]") or Shouxinggong (壽星公, lit. "Old Man of Star of Longevity") (both names refer to the star Canopus), is the third of the Seven Lucky Gods from Chinese mythology. He represents a long and healthy life. He appears in the form of a bald elderly man with a walking stick in his right hand and a peach in his left. In legend he was said to be carried in his mother for ten years before being born. When he was born he was already an old man. He is said to carry a gourd filled with the elixir of life.
