Splinter was transformed into a mutant vampire bat by Dr. Wu in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue 5 (Image), and spent the better part of the series vexing the Turtles off and on as his mind slowly went feral, until he was changed back to a mutant rat in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue 16 (Image).
