Spacing was a crude but effective form of execution in which a prisoner would be ejected from an airlock without any protection from vacuum. It was a preferred method of execution on starships because it tended to leave no mess or evidence (except in space on a predictable trajectory from the ship's location at the time of the spacing), as well as being an effective disciplinary tool.
