Exposed multi-phasing alternating current was a technology employed by the Cardassians for use in their turbolifts. In 2369, power went down all over Deep Space 9 and as a result, trapped Odo and Lwaxana Troi in a turbolift together. Major Kira Nerys informed Odo of the exposed multi-phasing alternating current used in the station's turbolifts found in the positioning mechanisms and advised him not to shapeshift out.
