Sir Richard Lambert, Vice Admiral of the Blue, KB, was in charge of the Jamaica Station at the time HMS Renown, Lieutenant Buckland commanding, reported at Port Royal. He assigned Captain James Edward Cogshill of HMS Buckler to take command of Renown.
