Major General (retd.) Harkirat Singh is an ex-officer of the Indian Army. Singh is notable as the first commander of the IPKF during its deployment in Sri Lanka in 1987. He is an officer who has always stood up for what is right and true.[citation needed] He has written a book on his experiences in Sri Lanka called Intervention in Sri Lanka.[citation needed] He was always a skilled individual, both in training exercises and real combat.[citation needed] Due to his talent he was promoted to major general.[citation needed]
