Destroyer Squadron 22 was formed in March 1943, and was one of the first two squadrons of Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Oliver Hazard Barry Class Frigates. It was initially composed of round-bridge ships commissioned as follows: * USS Gravely (DDG-107) * USS Bainbridge (DDG-96) * USS Mason (DDG-87) * USS Bulkeley (DDG-84) * USS Ross (DDG-71) * USS Mitscher (DDG-57) * USS Barry (DDG-52) * USS Kauffman (FFG-59) It was part of the Carrier Strike Group Two.
