The protagonist in Zill O'll is created entirely by the player. Their name, appearance, and attributes are determined by the player before the start of each game. The player decides what type of personality their character will have during the story, although the main character may occasionally address the player with their personal thoughts in text. They are 16 years old at the start of the game. Traits the player can manipulate with the main character's creation include character stats, Soul traits, and elemental tolerances.
