An Ion torpedo was a missile used in starfighter combat. Capable of homing in on enemies, Ion torpedos carried an intense ion charge, and detonated in a powerful Ion blast upon impacting a targeted ship. The blast was many times capable of crippling most starfighters, being more powerful than starfighter grade ion cannons.
