Referring to one of two giant salt water bodies on either end of the Ringworld. One of the two is home to the Map of Mars and other maps of Known Space worlds. The other is home to many repeated maps of the Pak home-world. These maps are isolation centers reserved for protectors and their bloodlines that have broken the agreement that was reached upon completion of the Ringworld's initial construction.
