Firl, a mute newt, lived with Bobbo the dormouse. Bobbo tried to teach him to speak, so he could have someone to talk to. He lost his tail to a lobster that lived in the ocean. While Mariel Gullwhacker and Dandin battled with the beast, Firl swam down to retrieve a metal swallow that served as a compass. Not to be confused with Fwirl.
