Scouts under orders from the White Hand, Vurbôk and Markûl were spying on the deployment of the cavalry of the West Emnet during a break in a skirmish. They stumbled upon a lone cottagewhere Ure completed the tasks of house and stable in the absence of her brothers and father. Éogil's sister did not survive the encounter,but the scouts lived only a few hours longer. Both were well-armed:Markûl wielded a hand axe and dagger, while Vurbôk brandished aknotched, but deadly, falchion.
