Des suspected the culprit to be Les Battersby, but it was in fact Ritchie Fitzgerald, the jealous estranged husband of Des' girlfriend, Samantha Failsworth. In June 1998, he took great delight in investigating a complaint from Janice Battersby about Les parking his camper van in the Street. The constable thought that he would catch the banned Les driving, but it turned out to be just a domestic dispute.
