While lauded for its medicinal qualities in some cultures, the leech (S."Gelen") was only considered a nuisance in the delta. These nasty, slug-like creatures fastened to anything warm-blooded and used their serrated tongue to rasp through to a blood vessel. Then they remained fixed to their prey, gorging themselves until they were so full that they slipped off.
