Burke has only one credited Star Trek novel – the Star Trek: Voyager - Starfleet Academy young adult novel, The Chance Factor. Burke was interested in writing, and this novel "seemed like a good one to use as a launch pad to see how it went". Shortly after, however, Burke suffered a debilitating illness which prevented him from pursuing a professional authorial career. (Voyages of Imagination, p. 697)
