The Pest Wars were certain invasions of the Pests from the void to the rest of Europe, the English scouts were the first to discover the buildings that contained the portals, they destroyed it but weren't aware that there were millions of pests in the island, and had to escape, they then notified the rest of the nations, who rose on arms to neutralize the invaders.
