Jill Orwell was a secretary at Pendlebury Paper Products. When Derek Wilton was sent on an overnight job in Bedford, he phoned the office to check that Victor Pendlebury was there, as he thought that Victor might have got him out of the way so he could have Mavis to himself. Mrs. Orwell answered the phone and told Derek that Victor was still on his lunch break, remarking that it wasn't like him as it was now 2.00pm. Having also failed to reach Mavis, Derek decided to return to Weatherfield rather than finish the job.
