The Liberty-class was a type of United Earth starship, a picket cruiser in Starfleet service in the 22nd century. The Liberty vessels were intended to serve only as sub-light engine picket craft, and around the beginning of the Earth-Romulan War, they were withdrawn from deep space service and were re-purposed as star system defense craft.
