The God is not Willing is the working title for the first book in The Karsa Orlong Trilogy. In October 2017, author Steven Erikson announced on his Facebook page that the book would be his next published Malazan work. In order to work on the book, he announced he was temporarily putting aside his work on Walk in Shadow, the concluding volume of the Kharkanas Trilogy. The story is expected to take place 4 to 5 years after the events of The Crippled God.
