Holding the rank of Commodore, he was one of the "new crop" of junior flag officers promoted after the overthrow and death of Oscar Saint-Just in 1915 PD. Promoted to Rear Admiral, he commanded Battle Squadron 21 of the Second Fleet, his flagship being the pod-laying superdreadnought RHNS Hero. He was killed when his ship's flag bridge was destroyed by enemy fire during the Second Battle of Marsh. (HH10)
