Toaru Majutsu no Index Light Novel Volume 17 was first published on March 10, 2009. It focuses on Kamijou Touma and Index becoming involved against a conspiracy against the British Royal Family eventually leading in full-blown coup d'etat. It is the first novel of the two-part storyline known as the British Royal Family Arc.
