Motaiko is Hotohori's mother who was unveiled in the light novel Suzaku Hi Den. She is a cruel ruler who has an antagonistic aura, and even went as far as poisoning Hotohori's half-brother. In her deathbed, he explains to him that her snide intentions and actions were to secure the throne for her beautiful son. When Hotohori begs her not to leave him alone, she tells him that he is not alone, and search for the mark of Suzaku. This is Hotohori's older brother, Shu Tendo.
