The Widow Smack (real name Ardelia Smack) was a resident of Tree and Tim Ross' favourite teacher. When Nell Ross is severely beaten by her second husband, Big Kells, it is Widow Smack that looks after her until Tim's return from Maerlyn. When Big Kells returns to the Ross house to finish off Nell he kills Widow Smack and leaves her body for Tim Ross to find.
