Dr. Kovacs is the surgeon who stepped in to save Kate Beckett's life and Josh Davidson's career, after Josh jeopardizes his standing in the medical community by undertaking surgery on someone with whom he is known to be in a relationship. Josh had to begin the process in Dr. Kovacs' absence to prevent Kate being lost in that critical period, but he finds it extremely difficult to step back and leave her fate in someone else's hands. Dr. Kovacs shows both skill and compassion in his handling of his colleague and the patient's family and friends.
