The nation of Vichy France, also known as the French State, known by its temporary capital, is a French remnant state that existed following the capture of Paris to Germany and surrender of France during the Great European War. The state was born from the territory seized by the Free French Forces (Forces françaises libres), a group of individuals and former military units part of a resistance organization founded by Charles de Gaulle in 1940 in London to continue the struggle against the Axis powers.
