Kempai was a ronin and the scribe of the Asako treasurer Asako Nanasato. He secretly was a bloodspeaker of a cultist cell at Kyuden Asako, alongside with Asako Kyoji, son of the master of the Asako Henshin, Kyoji's lover Asako Chisato, and the powerful courtier Asako Nichiren.
