A shwupp is a a subterranean scavenger that traps its prey in muddy pits. At one point Tori and Rowan stumble into a boggy pit infested by the shwupp, and nearly die before being able to escape, with Yce's help. Later, some of the Randir assassins sent after Tori stumbled into a shwupp pit, largely disrupting the attack.
