His All Holiness Eugenius II was the Patriarch of Constantinople from 1821 to 1822. He was among the group of archbishops held hostage by Mahmud II during the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence. While still a prisoner of Mahmud, Eugenius was then elected to succeed Patr. Gregory as Eugenius II. He was patriarch for about a year before he was succeeded in turn by Anthimus III in 1822.
