He played junior for the Quebec Remparts from 1969 to 1972, winning the Memorial Cup in 1971. The Atlanta Flames chose him 130th overall in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft but he chose instead to sign with the World Hockey Association's (WHA) Quebec Nordiques. Roy stayed with the Nordiques until mid-season 1976-77 when he was traded to the Cincinnati Stingers. In 1977-78 Roy went to the Atlanta Flames but was assigned to the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. He played most of the 1978-79 season in the American Hockey League but played one game for the WHA's New England Whalers. Roy retired that year.
